Buioingola Interview

1. Can you tell us a little bit more about the band for those that have never heard of you before?

buioingola is a three-piece from Italy. The band was born in late 2011, after some shows we released a demo, and in October 2013 we released our first full lenght album, "Dopo l'apnea".

2.For those that have yet to hear the music, how would you describe your musical sound?

Our music is a blend of many styles, you can hear some sludge, atmospheric black metal, industrial elements, crust punk feeling. However, we think that it all mixes fine resulting in a quite personal sound, sometimes fast, other times slow, dark but emotional and melodic too.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

"Dopo l'apnea" is a sort of concept album, the metaphor of the man drowning is a way to describe feelings that many people can experience from relationships with other human beings, the feeling of choking that constant misunderstanding and hipocrisy can give you. It's written by a really subjective point of view, often its almost autobiographical.

4. What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name buioingola?

"buioingola" is the contraction of three italian words, if you translate it in english it would sound like "darknessinthroat", it sounds better in italian though. It reflects our way to think the music we do, the visceral kind of impact on the feelings of the people who listen to our stuff.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and how would you describe your stage performance?

Honestly it's difficult to answer this question, we've played many great shows. However, we love when there's a good feeling between musicians and audience, between musicians and other musicians that share the stage in the same gig. It's always really cool to come back home with some new friends. Regarding our live shows, we like to play short (30-40 non-stop minutes), loud and intense sets, and the audience generally seems to like them, including people who don't usually listens to music like the one we play.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

We got some shows booked here in Italy for the end of the year (including a gig with Corrections House, the new super-group including people from Neurosis, Eyehategod, Nachtmystium etc), and we hope we'll manage to set up a tour for next year.. we'd like to visit many european countries, we'll see what comes out.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?

Actually, we had a deal with a french label, but there were many problems and it didn't work. We're working on a tape release of "Dopo l'apnea". Anyway, yes, we're looking for someone interested in releasing our further works, anyone can reach us writing to buioingola[at]gmail[dot]com .

8. On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your musical sound by fans of undergroud music?

Well, it's a bit early to talk about this, 'cause the album is out since a really short time. Obviously our bigger "fanbase" belongs to Italy, but we had good feedbacks from many other countries, like USA, Germany, France, Norway and many others.

9.Are there any other musical projects besides this band or is this a full time lineup?

Alessio (bass) plays in the band named Elara, they play instrumental post-rock (really worth checking out: www.elaraband.com ). Diego (vocals and guitar) is starting a new project with a couple of friends, it will be quite different from the music we play with buioingola.

10.What direction do you see your music heading into on future releases?

We recently started writing new stuff.. we're not sure about what will come out, but I'm quite sure that buioingola's sound will grow in quality and solutions. The band's life is short, in two years we have produced a quite big amount of stuff and we're still learning to know each other as musicians, we are in constant evolution so I see a bright future for us, by a purely musical point of view.

11.What are some bands or musical styles that have influenced your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We've got a variety of influences, mainly I'd talk about american black metal, 80's industrial bands such as Einsturzende Neubauten, but industrial metal bands too, like Godflesh. Of course sludge bands represent an important background for our music, and I think that the most recent wave of melodic crust punk (Alpinist, Ekkaia, Madame Germen) plays its role too. Regarding the stuff we listen to, there's a wide range indeed. Thomas (drums) is a big fan of industrial and darkwave music (Einsturzende Neubauten, Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, The Cure, Joy Division etc.). Diego is more into electronic music, black metal, ambient, and loves what is coming out from english pop-rock bands (Daughter, Foals, The XX etc.). Recently, Alessio listens to bands like Jesu, Light Bearer, General Lee, Explosions in the sky, Lento, Amenra.

12.Does Occultism play any role in your music?

I don't really think so, it's not a topic that influences our music.

13.Outside of music what are some of your interests?

We've got a variety of interests, from movies to books, sports etc. Thomas loves to spend time with his dog ( https://www.facebook.com/MaiaWitkins ), Alessio plays football as a goalkeeper, Diego is a student (neuropsichology) and loves playing basketball.

14.Any final words or thoughts before we wrap up this interview?

Thank you,   for the interview, the previous review and your interest. To all the people who wants to listen our stuff, please check it out here: http://buioingola.bandcamp.com/.

Cheers, buioingola
