Essene/Demo/2013 Review

Essene  are  a  1  man  band  from  Kansas  City, Kansas  that  plays  a very  depressive  from  of  black  metal  with  elements  of  shoegaze  and  post  rock  and  this  is  a  review  of  his  self  released  2013  demo.

"I"  begins  with  some  clean  and  melodic  post  rock  guitar  riffs  and  drum  beats  and  a  minute  later  spoken  word  samples  are  added  into  the song  and  the  song  closes  with  some  distorted  sounds.

"II"  begins with  some  melodic  guitar  riffs  and  drum  beats  and  a  few  seconds  alter  high  pitched  depressive  black  metal s creams  start  coming  into  the  song  and  the  drum b eats  get  faster  and  you  can  hear  some  primitive  guitar  playing  in  the  background  and  towards  the  end  the  music  goes  into  a  slower  direction  which  leads  to  the  bass  guitars  getting more  powerful  sounding.

"III"  begins  with  some  clean  and  melodic  guitar  playing  along  with  some  background  distorted  sounds  along  with  some  guitar  leads  and  the  song  is  all  instrumental  with  no  vocals  being  present.

"IV"  begins  with  some  acoustic  guitar  playing  which  uses  full  chords  and  then t he  drum beats  and  depressive  black  metal  screams  start  to  kick  in  along  with  some  synths and guitar  riffs  in  the  background  and  towards  the  end  there  is  a  brief  use  of  post  rock  style  guitar  leads.

Song  lyrics  cover  Existenialism,  while  the  production  has  a  very  dark,  raw  and  primitive  sound  to  it.

In  my  opinion  Essene  are  a  very  great  sounding  hybrid  of  depressive  black  metal,  post  rock   and  shoegaze  and if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  project.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "II"  and  "IV".  RECOMMENDED  BUY.
