Impenitent Thief Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Impenitent Thief started in 2013 due to the break up of Witch Tomb. Musically IT is a continuation of Witch Tomb. A lot of the same ideas and influences.

2.Recently you have released an ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

Evil black/death metal.

3.The band formed out of the ashes of Witch Tomb' what was the decision behind splitting up the other band and starting a new one?

Strep Cunt, bass/vocals in Witch Tomb lost interest in playing in a band regularly. We were cancelling shows and not practicing as a unit like we used to. Witch Tomb used to practice weekly. It just seemed like everyone was burned out and everyone had different excuses not to practice anymore so we broke up. The loss of our rehearsal room had a lot to do with it as well. We're still friends with Strep Cunt and have shared the stage with his solo project Cryostasium countless times. No bad blood.

4.Your lyrics cover some blasphemous topics, can you tell us a little bit more about your hatred for Christianity?

I was brought up Catholic and realized what horse shit it was very early on. All religions are shit and can fuck off. Almost all of our lyrics mock religion in one way or another.

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Impenitent Thief'?

The Impenitent Thief was the "bad" thief hung next to Jesus Christ. According to this bullshit story Gestas (IT) spit and mocked Christ as both of them died. Hail Gestas!

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Witch Tomb played some pretty sick shows with Profanatica, Havohej, Incantation, Acheron, Angel Corpse, Grief, Psycho, Krieg, Demoncy, Abazagorath, Ibex Throne, etc. Impenitent Thief has mostly played locally around the Boston area that I set up myself with other worthy local bands such as Psycho, Goat Felch (Strep Cunts new band) Desolate, Martyrvore, Kilslug, Larry Lifeless, Witch King,Haxen, Deathgod Messiah, etc. One of my best friends was a bartender at a local dive bar and we booked almost 20 bands over two days for No Life Fest 2. That was a great time.

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

We're always open to playing live so I am sure I will set something up in the future. We'd like to get to NYC on a good support slot. No extensive touring planned but I wouldn't be against it.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

Witch Tomb always had a great response. The new ep from Impenitent Thief just came out so not many people have heard it yet. So far I've got some orders and the response has been positive.

9.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

We are in the process of writing new material. Two songs are finished. I don't know if it will be a full length or another long ep. One of the new songs has an early Sigh inluence and the other has a heavy early Venom meets old Samael meets Profanatica vibe.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

Bathory, Profanatica, old Samael, Havohej, old Demoncy, old Rotting Christ, old Thou Art Lord, old Impaled Nazarene, old Venom, old Hellhammer/CF, Naked Whipper, Blood, Dead Christ, old Mystifier, old Sigh, old Varathron, old Mortuary Drape, Blasphemy, Order From Chaos, old Incantation, Impetigo, NME, Bulldozer, Abigail, Sabbat, Tormentor (Hun), old Mayhem, The Black, Imperator, Poison (Ger).

11.How would you describe your views on Satanism and Occultism?

I'm attracted to it but I wouldn't say I practice anything at all. Hail the I!

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
