Diktatur Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?

Hi, we are a black metal band from the south-west of France. Diktatur started in 2008, we played a couples of shows in France and Spain. We have released our debut album entitled « La voie du sang » (trad. The Hard Way) in 2010 and the band signed to Melancholia Records to release more recently « L’agonie d’un monde » (trad. The World Agony). Thorgis plays the drums and I am Aizko, I play the guitar.

2.A year ago you had released an ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?

I would say « L’agonie d’un monde » is the best representation of the band today. A balance between cold riffs, atmospheres and brutality, that is the goal we are looking for.

3.This was your first release in 5 years, can you tell us a little bit more about what was going on during that time span?

Nothing special except line-up issues. Lots of songs were written but yet unreleased.

4.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

Diktatur explores various concepts about diktatorship in general. For exemple, death is a form of diktatorship. The concept of our first album was war, people trying to survive in the trenches, the oppressing violence and horror. We are not into political stuffs that is the main accusation from most of people in France ah ah ah !

5.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Diktatur'?

We choose that name because it sounds cold and strong and resumes perfectly our vision of black metal. The music has to beats and nothing more.

6.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

Our best show was in Spain late-2010, we shared the stage with the massive Profundis Tenebrarum and the great Bloodoline. Very good feedback from the audience, blast beats and headbangs, we enjoyed every minute! Our stage performance philosophy is simple : plug-and-play !

7.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

No, we haven’t. For the moment, we choose to work with sessions members now so we need time.

8.Currently the band is signed to 'Melancholia Records', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?

Melancholia records is a french extreme metal label founded in the early 2000’s by Emperor Xaëlis. This label released some great underground french black metal bands such as Numenor, Maleficentia, Orakle, The Prisoner, and also european bands (Unholy Matrimony, Bonholm).
After some criminal fire in the label’s recording studio, the company paused his activity during a long time. Now they’re active again, coming back with new projects including collaborations with Diktatur.

9.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of black metal?

I really don’t know about that, until now, the feedback were too rare. We will have a lot more feedback now the band inked to Melancholia Records, the label is very involved into promoting the new release, we have reviews and interviews in metal magazines, fanzines, webzine, etc ... A song was recently presented and played in a french metal radio. It’s exciting ! Wish to have the time to focus on the live shows !

10.Wat is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?

Thorgis play in his old modern black metal band called Hretghir, we are recording the debut album to celebrate their return. I am working on a couples of projects that should be released in 2017.

11.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Time will say, we will see. Hope to play few lives shows and I guess we will focus on a brand new album next year.

12.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We are pretty much open minded about musical styles but when we write songs we play exactly what we are excepting to hear as black metal band. Nowadays, we are all agree about the perfect new Profundis Tenebrarum album « Disciples of the venomous death ».

13.What are some of your non musical interests?

Enjoying life until it is possible ah ah ! Seriously, I am always busy on musical interests.

14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Well, thank you for this interview. I would like to say that if you guys like our music, share our songs to people you know, we are on Spotify, Deezer, Tidal etc … The more you listen, sooner we will hit the stage !
